The best coffee in Cincinnati
Seven Cincinnati cafés and roasters across Over-the-Rhine and Northside.
7 entries · verified August 2026
Over-the-Rhine leads Cincinnati's coffee outright: the highest concentration of specialty shops and local roasters, in the most walkable historic district in the city, anchored by Findlay Market at one end. Three of the district's roasters (Deeper Roots, Collective Espresso, Coffee Emporium) all roast their own beans within a few blocks of each other, which is unusual density for a city this size.
Northside is the quieter alternative and worth the trip for two rooms in particular. Collective Espresso's second location sits down an actual alleyway rather than fronting the street, and Sidewinder a few doors up the same avenue runs a genuinely international menu — Italian, Mexican, and Turkish styles side by side rather than as a novelty section.
Deeper Roots Coffee
Over-the-Rhine
Started roasting in 2011 and now a Cincinnati staple with three locations. The Race Street site is the one for Over-the-Rhine, near Findlay Market. Reviewers consistently point to the macadamia milk latte and the cold nitro, and to a staff that goes out of its way for families with kids in tow. Parking around the market can be the actual obstacle, not the coffee.

Collective Espresso
Over-the-Rhine
Big-city drinks in a small room. The cortado gets named specifically and often in reviews (one reviewer called it "a delightful balance of espresso and steamed milk"), and the espresso lemonade is worth the curiosity. A minimal room that puts the focus on the cup rather than the seating; a few reviewers note the pours can be inconsistent shift to shift, which tracks with a small-batch, one-location operation.

Collective Espresso
Northside
The same operation, a completely different experience: tucked down an alleyway, homey and community-driven, with coffee roasted daily rather than trucked in from the Woodward site.

Sidewinder Coffee
Northside
An independent roastery sourcing from small farms, with a range that runs from Italian espresso drinks to a Mexican latte and a Turkish latte that both get called out by name in reviews. Quirky, art-filled room with a back patio that's the preferred seat when it's open, and dog-friendly. Service gets mixed marks on busy days; the coffee doesn't.

Redtree Coffee
Over-the-Rhine
Coffee and art in equal measure: local artwork on the walls rotates monthly and is for sale, and the exposed-brick room is one of the more pleasant in the district. The lavender latte and the seasonal iced harvest latte are the two reviewers mention most; the spinach goat cheese quiche covers the food side.

Cafe Continuum
Over-the-Rhine
An expansion of owner Ericka Leighton-Spradlin's boutique next door, which had already been open ten years before the café followed. Small bites, pastries from local Ohio bakeries, and house-made syrups and chai alongside the coffee. Consistently listed among the district's best, and a good second stop after Deeper Roots. Worth checking hours before you go: closed Monday through Wednesday.

Coffee Emporium
Roasting its own beans in small batches in Over-the-Rhine since 2001, and an established enough local name that it out-traffics far bigger chains on review counts alone. There's always a quiche and a burrito of the day, and reviewers describe service as fast and friendly even through a lunch rush.
